SF MoMA & maps

The first Tuesday of the month is free at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Because I had to work Tuesday night, I went into the city for a quick visit at the museum.

They had some great exhibits.  And the museum itself is pretty cool.

This walk way was the only way to access the exhibits at the top of the museum. The bridge you walk on is a grate, which is nice because it doesn't block the view from the bottom of the museum. Above this bridge are big windows that provide a view of skyscrapers and blue sky. Something people love to do is stand at the bottom and take pictures looking straight up through the bridge at the windows and architecture of the top of the museum.  I wore a dress Tuesday. And I didn't realize how clearly people could see through the grate until I had already walked over it twice. Woops..

There's a great view from the windows and patios of the museum.

see him?

Work Tuesday night was so much better than Sunday. In fact it was slow, quiet. When I got to work my co-workers told me that my patient I talked about before had passed away Monday evening.  The news came kind of as a blow and hovered over me throughout the night.

I bought a big wall map of the US and drew the routes I've gone in the past 6 months since I left PA.  It's strange how with other jobs that travel, business and etc, you meet a lot of people from different places too.  But with nursing you don't just meet people.  You are immediately thrown into possibly the most vulnerable time of their life.  There's little barriers between ICU nurses and their patients.  It's a powerful thing. A scary thing, to be a nurse.

Most of the blue dots I marked on this map didn't even notice that I came through, because I just visited.  But the red dots, noting where I lived and worked for a little, hopefully mark places where people may remember the little traveling nurse from PA. This makes me want to keep traveling, to keep leaving red dots on the country. To keep using my knowledge as a nurse to care for people, and hopefully affect them in a positive way.

And of course I want to through a couple more blue "sight seeing" dots on there too..

It helps that he can sleep anywhere..
