Day 6

After breakfast at Denny's with my grandma, we hit the road (again?!?) and drove for about 4 hours and 45min to Palm Springs, CA.

And guess what.. it's beautiful.  Lovely weather, and such cool architecture.  The town itself is really only 50/60 years old.  The looks and feel of the area have been pretty well reserved - real cool and easy going. Always classy and yet funky.

My Uncle's apt

My Uncle lives in Palm Springs.  He has a great two bedroom apartment.  He said when they built this complex, the brought the roofs in from Seattle.  They were prefabricated, massive pieces of this zig-zag pattern.  Most of his furnishings are vintage finds from garage sales and thrift stores.

view from the apt.

He gave us a driving tour of the neighborhood and the amazing houses. There's a lot of history, despite how young the town is.

After that I went for a walk in the neighborhood.  His apt is close to the base of a huge mountain. The desert appealed to me for some reason, so I ventured off of the paved road into the sand.  Bad idea.  It is not like the sand at the beach that is packed down and close to water.. it is like the loose, hot sand at the begining of the beach.  Well this loose, hot sand allowed my feet to sink almost beyond visibility.  It also filled the empty spaces of my shoes.  But other than that, it was a great walk!

Once everyone woke up from Sunday afternoon naps, we went out for dinner at a local place.  I was perusing the drink menu when the idea of a hofbraus dunkle sounded appealing to me - a cold dark beer to go with the pizza I had ordered.

The waitress brought it out and everyone just stared at me, "did you know it would be that big?!" they asked, with some judgement in their voices...I could tell.

No. I didn't.

And no, I did not drink the whole thing.

And yes.  I did get a little silly from drinking just half of it.

After dinner we came back to the apt and spent time with each other and the cats.

In conclusion, Palm Springs is gorgeous, and I'm falling asleep.

goodnight :)
