Wednesday, I recovered from hiking Grays and Torrey's. In the evening I met up with some new friends in Lower Downtown of Denver at a local bar.
We spent the evening at a Country Cowboy bar (not my scene :). There were these girls doing fancy footwork line dances that were difficult to follow. After a few songs and frustrating dance steps, I decided to make up my own line dance. It was simple; grape vine, grape vine, heel - toe, heel - toe, kick, turn, repeat. Next thing I know, I turn around and the whole dance floor was following this mockery of a 6 step line dance. Hilarious, and thanks in part to public school gym class.
Thursday morning I woke up early to a host of texts from friends and family asking me if I was okay. All I had to do was turn on the TV and I found out why they were asking.. The tragic massacre happened in Aurora, 20 minutes from Lakewood. Far away, but close enough for everyone to feel it.
It's unbelievable and horribly sad. For the next few days it was just about all people could talk and think about. But Coloradans are strong and supportive of each other. They have no other intent but to get everyone through this. However, it will be difficult to watch the trial go through this week.
A few things have occurred to me frequently through this trial that Colorado is facing, this was an evil event, but does not separate us from God's love and protection. Even as disaster strikes, He is in control and watching over. God is good and sovereign over everything.
Psalm 27:5 For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble.
Another morning this week I woke up to find that I had left my keys in the lock of my door overnight. A potentially dangerous situation, but uneventful. Another glimpse of grace in my life.
Otherwise, I'm really enjoying Colorado. Trying to make better use of my time I've signed up to volunteer at a few local places (a process that feels a lot like applying for a part time job..) and I got a library card.
Tomorrow, I'll take my library books and go for a little camp trip in Grand Junction, CO and Salt Lake City, UT. My sister Jocelyn and her hubby Mike are on their way back across country from a 2 week vacation and I'll be meeting up with them in UT then coming back to Denver for a few days of fun.
I can't wait :)
