Heavenly

Day 4 out of 5 in a row of skiing.

How can you not be inspired by a view like this? We skied Heavenly Resort today, which is a huge area straddling the border of California and Nevada.  The view from the California side is of Lake Tahoe, gorgeous. The view from Nevada is vast. And brown.

Conditions this morning were less than ideal.  Hard packed powder, which we are somewhat used to on the East Coast.  We did find some nice stuff in the woods though. In the afternoon it warmed up to above 50 degrees. The snow became easier to carve and almost slushy.

They have dogs that are part of the ski patrol.  They have been trained to search for people in the event of an avalanche.

This guy caught me trying to creep and sneak a picture of him and the rescue dog. It is hilarious to me how awkward the dog looks sitting on the snow mobile.  Luckily the ski patrolman and dog didn't mind my snapping a pic. They were both very friendly.

It's nice to follow Matt and my dad.  You don't have to think about where you are or what lift you are going to take.  They do that.

The problem lies in getting fatigued when they aren't. The problem lies in not being at their skill level. The problem lies in getting separated from them in the woods and having a double ejection then superman-ing through the air and landing inches from a massive boulder.

Despite one or two bad attitude moments, despite sweating like crazy, and despite the burning fatigue in my legs, we had a great day and got in some excellent runs.  I'm so glad I stuck it out and skied with them all day, it was worth the momentary discomfort :)

The peak of Heavenly is 10,040 ft. There is a trail appropriately named Skyview Trail, which runs along the top for a while. I attempted to take video of a small section of this run, just so you can see how breathtaking it is.

(PS this is my second attempt. The first had my finger in front of the lens the whole time..)

Another amazing blue sky day at Lake Tahoe. How about one more?

Clouds are given to us for a purpose, that there is glory in the clouds. In Exodus 16:10 we read, “They looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud.” Without the clouds there would be no shield from the burning sun. There would be no lavish sunsets; no rain; no light; no beautiful, picturesque landscapes.

Similarly, without pushing through the pain of skiing the steep, with 2 mountain men you would not have gained. He guided you my daughter.

“He … guided them by the skillfulness of his hands” (Psalm 78:72).

    Best to you- look up!
